What is ISO 9197 – Chloride content in paper pulps about?  

ISO 9197 is an international standard that lays out technical specifications for the determination of water-soluble chlorides in the paper, board and pulp. 

ISO 9197 specifies a method for the determination of water-soluble chlorides in all types of paper, board and pulp. The lower limit of the determination is 20 mg of chloride ion per kilogram of dry sample.

BS ISO 9197:2016 replaces ISO 9197:2006, of which it constitutes a minor revision. The changes in BS ISO 9197:2016 compared to ISO 9197:2006 are as follows: 

• The text in 5.4 on the preparation of nitric acid has been corrected 
• The precision statement has been moved to Annex A
