BS ISO 6588-1:2020

What is ISO 6588‑1 about?  

ISO 6588‑1 is the first part of the ISO 6588 series of documents on paper, board, and pulps. ISO 6588‑1 is an international standard on the determination of pH of aqueous extracts from paper, board, and pulps. 

ISO 6588‑1 specifies a method for the determination of the pH-value defined by the electrolytes extractable by cold water from a sample of paper, board, or pulp. 

ISO 6588‑1 is applicable to all types of paper, board, and pulp. 

Who is ISO 6588‑1 for? 

ISO 6588‑1 on paper, board and pulps is useful for: 

• Paper, board, and pulps manufacturers 
• Testing laboratories/ test personnel of paper, board, and pulps 
• Paper mills 

Why should you use ISO 6588‑1?

ISO 6588‑1 provides you with a cold extraction method to determine the pH of aqueous extracts from paper, board, and pulps.

What is changed since the last update? 

BS ISO 6588‑1:2020 supersedes ISO 6588‑1:2012. BS ISO 6588‑1:2020 has some technical changes. These include: 

• Addition of the last four paragraphs in the Introduction to clarify the differences, in the role and mode of addition of a salt solution, between ISO 6588‑1 and ISO 29681
