BS EN 16083 specifies safety requirements and test methods for paddles and oars for non-rigid hull watercrafts.
Paddles and oars are classified into two performance levels A and B. The aim of BS EN 16083 is to help in manufacturing paddles and oars that are safe for the users.

BS EN 16083 provides design requirements that can be followed while manufacturing the paddles and oars. This will ensure that the paddles and oars shall be entirely free from sharp edges, burrs, or splinters. There shall be no irregularities that could cause injury.
It provides test methods to check the bending strength that can ensure that the paddles and oars are of good quality that can sustain the load applied while pushing the paddle blade against the water.
