What is BS EN 169412 about?

BS EN 169412 is the second part of the multi-series that is applicable to on-site non-potable water systems.

BS EN 169412 specifies the principles of design, sizing, installation, identification, commissioning and maintenance of greywater systems with the purpose of use of greywater on-site.

Note 1: BS EN 169412 preferably for the use of treated greywater for:

  • WC flushing
  • Garden watering
  • Laundry
  • Cleaning purposes

Note 2: Conformity with this document does not exempt from compliance with the obligations arising from local or national regulations.

Who is BS EN 16941-2 for?

BS EN 16941-2 on systems for treated greywater is applicable to:

  • Designers and installers of potable water systems
  • Construction industry
  • Companies involved in collection, filtration and treatment of water for non-potable applications
  • Environmental protection agencies
  • Regulatory bodies

Why should you use BS EN 16941-2?

Greywater is wastewater from non-toilet plumbing systems. On-site non-potable water systems represent a significant opportunity to transform the way water is managed. Greywater reuse in urban water systems enhances both the water supply and wastewater subsystems significantly. It reduces the demand for fresh clean water and the amount of wastewater required to be conveyed and treated.

Greywater systems for on-site use when designed, sized, installed, identified, commissioned, and maintained according to BS EN 16941-2 can help address problems of cooling and heat recovery.

Accordingly, BS EN 16941-2 helps with on-site water treatment systems that gather wastewater, runoff, rainwater, and other non-potable water and purify it so that it can be reused in a building or used locally for irrigation, toilet flushing, and cooling. This can help you reduce wastage of potable water, thereby contributing to minimizing pressures on water resources.
