BS EN 15151-1 is the first part of the BS EN 15151 multi-series on mountaineering equipment and braking devices that specifies safety requirements and test methods for braking devices with manually assisted locking used in mountaineering, climbing, and related activities for belaying, with manually assisted locking function, to protect against falls from a height and/or for abseiling with speed regulation.
BS EN 15151-1 applies to braking devices that are loaded with one person and which use mountaineering ropes according to EN 892. In case of abseiling and lowering down, BS EN 15151-1 also applies to braking devices, used with low stretch kernmantel ropes according to EN 1891. Note: BS EN 15151-1 does not apply to manual braking devices which are addressed in EN 15151-2:2012, nor to fully automatic fixed installations.
