What is BS EN 840-6 about?  

BS EN 840-6 discusses mobile waste and recycling containers. BS EN 840-6 is the sixth part of the multi-series on mobile waste containers.   

BS EN 840-6 provides the essential safety, health and ergonomic requirements for mobile waste and recycling containers according to EN 840-1:2020 to EN 840-4:2020. 

Note: BS EN 840-6 does not include hazardous wastes containers.

Why should you use BS EN 840-6? 

Mobile waste and recycling containers are designed containers fitted with wheels intended to temporarily store waste. The containers are constructed so that when they are unloaded or loaded with a nominal load, they fit on approved compatible lifting devices. They are automatically locked safely into the lifting devices during the tilting and emptying operation. 

BS EN 840-6 provides the essential safety, health and ergonomic requirements for mobile waste and recycling containers according to EN 840-1:2020 to EN 840-4:2020. 

While constructing containers, the following factors influencing measurable handling force are optimized: 

• Design of container as regards to form, size, and position of the centre of gravity in relation to the positioning of wheels and handles 
• Even distribution of loads on wheels 
• Low rolling resistance 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 840-6:2020 supersedes EN 840-6:2012. 

The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows: 

• The document has been editorially revised, and Clause 3 "Terms and Definitions" added according to the new CEN Internal Regulation Part 3 
• Former subclause 3.1 (now 4.1) has been revised
