BS IEC 61892-5 is the fifth part of the IEC 61892 series that discusses mobile and fixed offshore units.
BS IEC 61892-5 specifies additional characteristics for electrical installations in mobile units. BS IEC 61892-5 applies to installations that depend on buoyancy, such as column-stabilized units (semisubmersible units), ship- or barge-type units as well as self-elevating units. BS IEC 61892-5 specifies additional characteristics for such units, used during the transfer from one location to another and for drilling, production, accommodation, processing, storage and offloading purposes.
BS IEC 61892-5 applies to all installations, whether permanent, temporary, transportable or hand-held, to AC installations and DC installations without any limitation on voltage level.
Note: BS IEC 61892-5 does not apply to:
BS IEC 61892-5 on additional requirements for electrical installations for mobile offshore units is useful for:
BS IEC 61892-5 specifies additional requirements that are specific to mobile offshore units and are not covered in BS IEC 61892-1.
BS IEC 61892-5 specifies requirements such as those concerning:
For dynamic positioning systems, BS IEC 61892-5 also provides references to relevant IMO requirements. In conclusion, these guidelines of BS IEC 61892-5 help you to understand the requirements of mobile offshore units and thereby operate them efficiently.
BS IEC 61892-5:2019 supersedes BS IEC 61892‑5:2014, which is withdrawn. BS IEC 61892-5:2019 includes the following significant technical change with respect to the BS IEC 61892‑5:2014:
