This British Standard is the UK implementation of EN ISO 10572:2009. It supersedes BS EN 14687:2004 which is withdrawn.

The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted to Technical Committee TCI/77, Ropes and cordage and fishing nets.

Foreword

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.

The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. This European Standard was approved by CEN on 4 November 2009.

This document (EN ISO 10572:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 38 "Textiles" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 248 “Textiles and textile products” the secretariat of which is held by BSI.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2010, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by June 2010.

This International Standard specifies requirements for 3-strand hawser-laid, 4-strand shroud-laid, 8-strand braided and 12-strand braided ropes made of mixed polyolefin fibres, and gives rules for their designation.
