This revision of this Part of this British Standard, prepared under the direction of the Surface Coatings (other than Paints) Standards Committee, is identical with ISO 4530:1983 “Vitreous and porcelain enamelled manufactured articles — Determination of resistance to heat”. ISO 4530 was prepared by Technical Committee TC 107, Metallic and other non-organic coatings, of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), with the active participation and approval of the UK.

This revision supersedes BS 1344‑7:1967 which is withdrawn. It differs from the 1967 publication in that provision is made, where appropriate, for

a) maintaining the test temperature of the article under test at the specified temperature for an agreed time;
b) subjecting the article under test to an agreed number of test cycles.

NOTE The 1967 edition, which was of national origin, specified one test cycle in which heating of the article under test was discontinued immediately on attaining the test temperature.

Further Parts of this standard, specifying methods of test for other properties of vitreous enamels, are in course of preparation. The standard at present includes the following Parts either published or in course of preparation.

Terminology and conventions. The text of the international standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the following. Where the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, they should, be read as “British Standard”.

Additional information. This Part of BS 1344 describes a method of test only and should not be used or quoted as a specification defining resistance to heat. Reference to this Part should indicate that the method of test used is in accordance with BS 1344‑7.
