EN 1052‑3:2002 is a supporting standard to the “harmonized” European product standard specification EN 998‑2, which fully takes into account the requirements of the European Commission mandate M116, Masonry and related products, given under the EU Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC), and is intended to lead to CE marking.

This publication does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users are responsible for its correct application.

This Amendment to the European Standard EN 1052‑3:2002 shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2007, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2007.

1 Scope

This European Standard specifies a method for determining the in plane initial shear strength of horizontal bed joints in masonry using a specimen tested in shear.

Guidance is given on the preparation of the specimens, the conditioning required before testing, the testing machine, the method of test, the method of calculation and the contents of the test report.
