BS EN 993 is a series on test method for dense shaped refractory products. BS EN 993-1 specifies a method for the determination of the bulk density, apparent porosity and true porosity of dense shaped refractory products. From values and the true density of the material, determined by the method specified in EN 993‑2, its bulk density, apparent porosity and true porosity are determined by calculation. This test method could also be used for materials development, quality control, characterization, design and data generation purposes.
BS EN 993-1 includes apparatus, geometry of test pieces, test piece preparation and verification, test procedure, and precision data for the bulk density and open porosity.
NOTE-For shaped insulating refractory products, the bulk density and true porosity are determined in accordance with EN 1094‑4.
BS EN 993-1 on refractory products and materials is useful for:
A refractory material or refractory is a material that is resistant to decomposition by heat, pressure, or chemical attack, and retains strength and form at high temperatures. Refractory materials are used in furnaces, kilns, incinerators, and reactors. It is important to determine the compressive strength, bulk density, apparent porosity and true porosity of refractory products.
BS EN 993-1 helps you by providing a test method for determining bulk density, apparent porosity and true porosity of refractory products and materials, which can be useful for various industries that use refractory products. This would be crucial to ensure optimal operational efficiency, strength and long service-life for your specific engineering and product needs.
With best-practice guidance on testing of refractory products and materials in BS EN 993-1, you will be able to incorporate standardised methods to evaluate the overall performance of refractory products. It enables the manufacturers to make the right choice based on chemical composition as per your specified engineering and industrial needs.
