BS 4162 is an International Standard that focuses on methods of test for buttons.
BS 4162 describes methods of testing for all types of buttons for the fastening and ornamentation of wearing apparel.
Note 1: The tests cannot be directly related to laundering and dry-cleaning occurring in practice because other factors such as mechanical effects cannot be reproduced satisfactorily on a small scale, but they can be used to indicate the suitability of buttons for general and specific uses.

Clothe’s button is a small circular flat disklike piece of solid material having holes through which it can be stitched to the clothing and used to fasten or close the garment by passing through a loop or hole in the other side. BS 4162 covers the sampling procedure for the buttons which helps you in the determination of abrasion resistance, determination of strength, and resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Using these test methods, the buttons are examined for any change in appearance.
BS 4162 also helps to assist in contact with standard multi-fibre adjacent fabric and then mechanically agitated under specified conditions of time and temperature in a soap or detergent solution, rinsed and dried.
