Photometric measurement, or photometry, is a technique that can be used to measure the concentration of organic and inorganic compounds in solution by determining the absorbance of specific wavelengths of light.
BS 3907-7 provides you with the principle of nickel in magnesium alloys using the photometric method in which the alloys are dissolved in acid, the dimethylglyoxime complex of the nickel is formed in ammoniacal citrate solution and the complex is extracted with chloroform. The nickel complex is then extracted from the chloroform with dilute hydrochloric acid and, after the addition of bromine water, the solution is made ammoniacal and dimethylglyoxime added. The method is recommended for nickel contents between 0 001 % and 0.02 %.
