BS 7317-6 is the sixth part of the BS 7317 series that discusses the determination of phosphorus and silicon by spectrophotometry for the analysis of high purity copper cathode. Copper cathodes are used in the manufacturing of continuous cast copper rods which are further used for the wire, cable and transformer industries.
BS 7317-6 describes a method for the determination of the actual amounts of the impurity elements phosphorus and silicon present in high purity copper cathode (designated Cu-CATH-1), by spectrophotometry. It applies to concentrations of the elements not exceeding the following limits: phosphorus 20 4g/g (0.0020 % m/m) maximum, silicon 25 4g/g (0.0025 % m/m) maximum.
