What is this standard about?
How healthcare science services are delivered can have a big impact on patient outcomes. This standard, therefore, provides a widely applicable framework for improving the quality, safety and competence of healthcare science services delivery.
Who is this standard for?
Why should you use this standard?
It specifies requirements for quality, safety and competence in medical physics, clinical engineering and associated science services, including the development and manufacture of associated products in healthcare.
It specifies a framework for good practice in service delivery, training and innovation research and development, including the roles, responsibilities, activities, facilities and equipment that are required for the delivery of such healthcare science services and associated products for the benefit of patients.
The standard’s language and requirements are generic and widely applicable, focusing on the scientific aspects of service delivery. It links quality management systems in order to reduce duplication of effort and cost.
BS 70000 also recognizes that a distinction is not universally made between physiological services and medical physics services in terms of delivery models. Many departments provide a mixture of services, some of which require engagement with IQIPS and others with iCEPSS.
