ISO 5348 specifies the important technical properties of the different methods for mounting vibration transducers and describes recommended practices. ISO 5348 also shows examples of how accelerometer mounting can influence frequency response and gives examples of how other influences can affect the fidelity of the representation of actual motion in the structure being observed.
ISO 5348 applies to the contacting type of accelerometer which is currently in wide use.
ISO 5348 is applicable to both uniaxial and multi-axial transducers as well as velocity transducers.
Note: ISO 5348 does not cover geophones.
ISO 5348 on the mechanical mounting of accelerometers is relevant to:
Incorrect mounting of accelerators could have negative effects on its performance.
ISO 5348 attempts to identify parameters to be considered in the selection of a method to mount the accelerometer on the structure. ISO 5348 provides an overview of criteria for the selection of mounting methods, based on best practices.
ISO 5348 also helps users understand the characteristics of vibration transducers and frequency ranges of operation.
With ISO 5348, you will be able to establish a highly efficient mounting process that provides improved accuracy in readings, easily detect faults in machine components and also estimate the limitations of a mounting and consequent potential measurement deviations.
BS ISO 5348:2021 supersedes BS ISO 5348:1998, which is withdrawn. BS ISO 5348:2021 cancels and replaces the second edition (ISO 5348:1998), which has been technically revised. The main changes compared to the previous edition are as follows:
