BS IEC 62891 is an international standard that includes the guidelines to verify the efficiency of grid connected photovoltaic inverters.
BS IEC 62891 provides a procedure for the measurement of the efficiency of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of inverters used in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems. The static and dynamic MPPT efficiency are considered here. The dynamic MPPT efficiency is indicated separately.
NOTE 1: BS IEC 62891 addresses PV inverters connected to an AC grid. However, this procedure may also be used for other power conversion devices with MPPT functionality used in PV systems, such as charge controllers or optimizers.
BS IEC 62891 on grid connected photovoltaic inverters is useful for:
A grid-connected photovoltaic system is an electricity generating solar PV power system that is connected to the utility grid. A grid-connected PV system consists of solar panels, one or several inverters, a power conditioning unit and grid connection equipment.
BS IEC 62891 helps you with the calculation of the MPPT efficiency, which describes the accuracy of an inverter to set its operating conditions to match the maximum power point on the characteristic curve of a grid connected photovoltaic inverters. The overall MPPT efficiency is divided into static and dynamic efficiency components.
