BS EN 12418 applies to transportable masonry and stone cutting-off machines stationary during work, principally used on job site building construction for cutting-off stones, other mineral
construction materials and composite materials having at least one supporting surface. The power for the tool rotation is supplied by electrical or internal combustion prime motor.
BS EN 12418 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events relevant to masonry and stone cutting-off machines for job sites (see Annex A), when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer.
Note: BS EN 12418 does not apply to:
BS EN 12418 does not cover the operation of transportable masonry and stone cutting-off machines in potentially explosive atmospheres.
BS EN 12418 applies to machines that are manufactured after the date of approval of the standard by CEN.
BS EN 12418 on masonry and stone cutting-off machines for the job site is useful for:
BS EN 12418 is a type-C standard as stated in EN ISO 12100 which deals with detailed safety requirements for a particular machine or group of machines.
BS EN 12418 type-C standard helps you to take precedence over the requirements of the other standards for machines that have been designed and built according to the requirements of this type-C standard.
Some technical measures help you to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards during the lifetime of the machinery as described in EN ISO 12100:2010. These machines are designed for use with rotating diamond cutting-off wheels with a continuous rim and/or segmented rim.
BS EN 12418 provides you with the noise test code for noise emission of masonry and stone cutting-off machines by providing all the necessary information carried out efficiently and under standardized conditions the determination, declaration, and verification of the job site. Also, the vibration-test code for vibration emission helps you to provide the necessary information for determining efficiently and under standardized conditions the characteristics of masonry and stone cutting-off machines.
BS EN 12418:2021 supersedes EN 12418:2000+A1:2009.
The main differences between BS EN 12418:2021 and EN 12418:2000+A1:2009 are as follows:
