BS EN IEC 60598-2-18 discusses luminaires with a focus on particular requirements of luminaires for swimming pools and similar applications. BS EN IEC 60598-2-18 specifies requirements for fixed luminaires intended for use in the water, or in contact with the water, in, for example, the basins of swimming pools, fountains, paddling pools, and garden pools.
Note: BS EN IEC 60598-2-18 does not cover luminaires, not in contact with the water (e.g., mounted behind a glass panel which is separate from the luminaire) or hand-held or portable luminaires. It is to be read in conjunction with those sections of Part 1 to which reference is made.
BS EN IEC 60598-2-18 on luminaires for swimming pools and similar applications is useful for:
Luminaire is provided with a protective glass shield in the form of a single lens, the openings of the mesh shall not exceed 25 mm. If the luminaire is fitted with a multi-lens objective no mesh is necessary.
BS EN IEC 60598-2-18 discusses the classification of luminaires, marking, construction, creepage distances and clearances, provisions for earthing, terminals, external and internal wiring, protection against electric shock, endurance tests and thermal tests, resistance to dust and moisture, insulation resistance, and electric, strength, and resistance to heat, fire, and tracking.
