BS EN 14427 is a European standard that:
Cylinders manufactured to BS EN 14427 are suitable for temperatures down to −40 °C. BS EN 14427 does not address the design, fitting and performance of removable protective sleeves. Where these are fitted, the choice of material and sleeve performance should be considered separately.
Note: BS EN 14427 requires measurement of material properties, dimensions and pressures. All such measurements are subject to a degree of uncertainty due to tolerances in measuring equipment, etc. It may be beneficial to refer to the leaflet “Measurement uncertainty leaflet SP INFO 2000 27”.
BS EN 14427 on design and construction for composite cylinders is useful for:
BS EN 14427 calls for the use of substances and procedures that can be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. BS EN 14427 refers only to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. It has been assumed in the drafting of BS EN 14427 that the execution of its provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced people.
BS EN 14427 recommends that manufacturers develop an environmental management policy. For guidance see ISO 14000 series. All pressures are gauge unless otherwise stated. BS EN 14427 provides its users with guidelines for routine manufacturing inspections, assembling, testing and evaluation. Using BS EN 14427 guidelines will ensure lightweight, durable, safe, easy to use and clean equipment with high quality for longer service life.
