BS EN 12252 is a European Standard on LPG equipment and accessories. The main aim of BS EN 12252 is to achieve a safe and efficient LPG road tanker operation.
BS EN 12252 specifies equipment and accessories for road tankers used for the transport of
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and identifies the equipment that is considered necessary to ensure that filling, transportation and discharge operations can be carried out safely.
BS EN 12252 also identifies additional equipment and accessories that can be used on road tankers carrying LPG.
Note 1: BS EN 12252 does not preclude the use of alternative designs, materials and equipment testing which provide the same or a higher level of safety. ADR [9] requires that such alternative technical codes be recognised by the competent authority, provided that the minimum requirements of section 6.8.2 of ADR [9] are complied with.
Note 2: BS EN 12252 does not apply to “tank-containers” or “battery-vehicles” used for the transport of LPG.
BS EN 12252 on equipping of LPG road tankers is useful for:
Over the years, manufacturers have made continuous advancements in tank truck equipment that contributes to the safety of the road tanker and hazardous cargo industries. Due to high storage space and thermal stability, the offered LPG mobile road tanker is used for the transportation and storage of LPG.
In this regard, BS EN 12252 specifies the requirements for the assembly of the accessories and the vehicle LPG equipment to the road tanker.
BS EN 12252 also covers the equipment specifications with gauges, reels and valves as well as an assembly with flanged connections, screwed connections and external corrosion protection.
BS EN 12252 outlines the inspection and testing that includes hydraulic pressure test and leak test as well as provides details on safety systems and general safety requirements.
As a result, if you are a manufacturer of LPG equipment and accessories, complying with BS EN 12252 can help demonstrate safe, durable, and reliable road tanker equipment and tank truck systems.
BS EN 12252:2014 supersedes EN 12252:2012. BS EN 12252:2014 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 12252:2012. These include:
