BS EN 61439-5 is the fifth part of an international multi-series standard that deals with the aspects of low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies.
BS EN 61439-5 defines the specific requirements for public electricity network distribution assemblies (PENDAs).
Public electricity network distribution assemblies (PENDAs), have the following criteria:
The object of BS EN 61439-5 is to state the definitions and to specify the service conditions, construction requirements, technical characteristics, and tests for PENDAs. Network parameters may require tests at higher performance levels. PENDAs may also include control and or signalling devices associated with the distribution of electrical energy.
BS EN 61439-5 applies to all PENDAs whether they are designed, manufactured on a one-off basis, or fully standardized and manufactured in quantity. The manufacture and/or assembly may be carried out other than by the original manufacturer.
Note 1: BS EN 61439-5 does not apply to individual devices and self-contained components, such as motor starters, fuse switches, electronic equipment, etc. which comply with the relevant product standards.
Note 2: BS EN 61439-5 does not apply to specific types of ASSEMBLIES covered by other parts of IEC 61439 series.
Note 3: Open ASSEMBLIES are not covered by BS EN 61439-5.
BS EN 61439-5 on Assemblies for power distribution in public networks is useful for:
Public electricity network distribution assemblies (PENDAs) are assemblies, that are generally utilized for installation in a public electricity network, which receives electrical energy from one or more supplies and distributes that energy through one or more cables to other equipment. PENDA is installed, operated, and maintained by solely skilled persons.
BS EN 61439-5 gives you technical specifications of the low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies, in order to enable the users to follow the standardized guidelines for assemblies that are used for power distribution in public networks. It discusses the PENDAs i.e., public electricity network distribution assemblies which require consideration of specific criteria while designing and constructing such assemblies.
BS EN 61439-5 recommends the specifications such as interface characteristics, service conditions, constructional requirements, performance requirements, design verification, routine requirements which helps the users in verifying of performance of the assemblies for ensuring the high-quality, durability, reliability, and efficiency of assemblies for power distribution in public networks.
