What is BS EN 61111 – Electrical insulating matting about? 

BS EN 61111 is applicable to electrical insulating matting made of elastomer for use as a floor covering for the electrical protection of workers on electrical installations. 

Note: This document gives a.c. test provisions. There is limited history for use in d.c. applications.

Why should you use BS EN 61111 - Electrical insulating matting? 

Electrical insulating matting is flexible sheeting made of elastomer, used to cover the surface on which the worker is standing. The electrical insulating matting covered by this BS EN 61111  shall be designated as follows: 

• By electrical class: as class 0, class 1, class 2, class 3, and class 4 
• By adding the suffix “C” to the class designation, in the case of category C matting 

BS EN 61111 also provides you with terms, requirements, dimensions and tolerances, Thickness, dielectric requirements, and electrical test procedures that significantly influence the quality of insulating material.

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS EN 61111:2009 supersedes CLC/TS 61111:2006. The following significant technical changes with regard to CLC/TS 61111:2006: 

• General review of the requirements and test provisions 
• Modification of the test procedure for slip resistance 
• Specification of standard and alternative types of electrodes for the proof test 
• Increase the conditioning time for the low-temperature folding test to 4 hours 
• Modification of the test procedures for low and extremely low temperature by replacing the dielectric proof test with a withstand test in the sanction
