BS EN 61112 is applicable to electrical insulating blankets for the protection of workers from accidental contact with live or earthed electrical conductors, apparatus, or circuits and avoidance of short circuits on electrical installations.
Electrical insulating blankets in rolls having a width lower than 50 mm are not covered by BS EN 61112.
Note: This standard gives a.c. test provisions. There is limited history for use in d.c. applications.
BS EN 61112 on electrical insulating blankets is relevant to:
Electrical insulating blankets are flexible sheeting made of elastomer or plastic material, used to cover conductors or metallic parts which are either energised, dead or earthed.
BS EN 61112 also provides you with terms, requirements, classification, dimensions and tolerances, thickness, dielectric requirements, dielectric tests, modifications, and mechanical test procedures that significantly influence the quality of insulating material for blankets.
Overall BS EN 61112 is beneficial to you as it is used to prevent heat from escaping hot components; however, it can also be used to prevent the freezing or warming of cold components which ensures increased safety.
BS EN 61112:2009 supersedes CLC/TS 61112:2006. The following significant technical changes with regard to CLC/TS 61112:2006:
