ISO 21183‑2 establishes a list of equivalent terms relating to light conveyor belts. Light conveyor belt predominantly used for the indoor transport of unit loads (for example: parcels, boxes, cans, containers, luggage, industrial goods of all kinds and foodstuffs).
Note: In addition to terms used in the three official ISO languages (English, French and Russian), ISO 21183‑2 gives the equivalent terms in German, Spanish, Italian and Japanese; these are published under the responsibility of the member bodies for Germany (DIN), Spain (AENOR), Italy (UNI) and Japanese (JISC). However, only the terms given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms.

ISO 5284 contains a list of equivalent terms that apply to conveyor belts in general. Many of these terms are also applicable to light conveyor belts without modification, but these are not included in ISO 21183‑2.
ISO 21183‑2 contains only terms applicable to light conveyor belts that are either not included in ISO 5284, or which are included in ISO 5284 but need modification — in one or more of the languages — for them to be applicable to light conveyor belts. By knowing the terms relating to light conveyor belts the purchasers and suppliers can purchase appropriate equipment according to their needs.
BS EN ISO 21183‑2:2018 supersedes BS EN ISO 21183‑2:2006, which is withdrawn. The main change compared to the BS EN ISO 21183‑2:2006 is that Japanese terms have been added.
