BS EN 50342‑2 is the second part of an international multi-series standard that includes specifications for lead-acid starter batteries.
BS EN 50342‑2 is applicable to lead-acid batteries used for starting, lighting, and ignition of passenger automobiles and light commercial vehicles with a nominal voltage of 12 V.
BS EN 50342‑2 gives technical specifications about lead-acid starter batteries such as general requirements, marking, safety labelling, recommended and other battery types, mounting of batteries, dimensions of battery, marking of polarity.
BS EN 50342‑2 on lead-acid starter batteries is useful for:
Usually, the battery performance is highly efficient if it is discharged slowly, and the capacity of reading is notably higher at a slow discharge rate. Lead-acid can deliver high pulse currents of several C if done for in very less time.
BS EN 50342‑2 specifies technicalities for lead-acid batteries like general requirements, dimensions, and characteristics that will make a lead-acid battery a starter battery. This allows the designers and manufacturers to achieve standardization and safety while production of lead-acid starter batteries.
All batteries in accordance with BS EN 50342‑2 can be fastened to the vehicle either by means of the ledges around the case or by means of a hold-down device engaging with the lid.
BS EN 50342‑2:2019 supersedes BS EN 50342‑2:2007+A1:2014, which is withdrawn.
