BS EN 12516-2 is the second part of the industrial valve strength series. BS EN 12516-2 specifies the method for the strength calculation of the shell with respect to the internal pressure of the valve.
Together with the other documents in the series, BS EN 12516-2 specifies methods for determining the thickness of steel valve shells by calculation methods. BS EN 12516-2 also specifies methods for calculating the thickness of valve shells in metallic materials other than steel.
BS EN 12516-2 gives information about calculating formulae, calculation methods for wall thickness of valve bodies, glands, flange, pressure sealed bonnets, and covers.
Tabulated pressure-temperature ratings apply to a group of materials and are calculated using selected stress, which is determined from the material properties representative of the group, using safety factors defined in BS EN 12516-2.
