What is  ISO 21262 about?  

ISO 21262 gives safety requirements for the application, operation, maintenance, transport, tow, assembly, and storage of industrial trucks as defined in ISO 5053‑1.

Note: ISO 21262  applies to the following truck types:

• Counterbalance lift trucks
• Reach trucks (with a retractable mast or retractable fork arm carriage)
• Straddle trucks, Pallet-stacking trucks
• Platform trucks, Double stackers, Side-loading trucks (one side only)
• Lateral-stacking trucks (both sides), and lateral- and front-stacking trucks
• Order-picking trucks
• Bidirectional and multidirectional trucks
• Counterbalance container handlers
• Articulated counterbalance lift trucks
• Variable-reach trucks, Pallet trucks
• Platform and stillage trucks
• Tractors with a drawbar pull up to and including 20 000 n
• burden and personnel carriers
• Trucks powered by battery, diesel, gasoline, or gas (e.g., LPG, CNG, LNG)

 Why should you use ISO 21262?  

ISO 11525‑2 is supplemented by good management practices, safety controls and  application of sound principles of safety, training, inspection, maintenance, application selection, and operation. Those with direct control over the application and operation of the truck should be responsible for ensuring good safety practices.  It is essential to have competent persons trained in the intended use, safe operation, maintenance, and service of the truck and any attachment(s). The use of ISO 11525‑1 can help get guidance on effective machinery maintenance and operation that can optimize overall operational efficiency.
