BS EN 60654-1 is the first part of the BS EN 60654 multi-series that discusses industrial-process measurement and control equipment.
The purpose of BS EN 60654-1 is to provide users and suppliers of industrial-process measurement and control systems and parts of such systems with a uniform listing of the selected environmental conditions to which equipment may be exposed in specified locations.
BS EN 60654-1 lists environmental climatic conditions e.g., air temperature, humidity and air pressure in specified locations to which land-based and offshore industrial-process measurement and control systems may be exposed during operation, during periods when they are installed but inactive and during storage or transportation.
The influence quantities considered in BS EN 60654-1 are limited to those which may directly affect the performance of process measurement and control systems. Only environmental conditions as such are considered.
BS EN 60654-1 establishes location classes with severity levels or sets of severity levels for the environmental conditions listed.
Note1: Maintenance and repair conditions are not considered.
Note2: Environmental conditions directly related to fire and explosion hazards and conditions related to ionized radiation are likewise not considered.
Note3: Effects of the specific environmental conditions on personnel are not within the scope of BS EN 60654-1.
BS EN 60654-1 on climatic conditions for industrial-process measurement and control equipment is useful for:
Constant exposure to environmental conditions can affect the industrial process measurement and control equipment over the course of its operational life. Hence, it is very important to identify the effects of these conditions to enhance the operational life of process measurement and control equipment.
BS EN 60654-1 is intended to serve as a basis for the preparation of comprehensive specifications for environmental conditions by the user and by the supplier.
BS EN 60654-1 helps you to avoid problems that might result from neglecting considerations of specific environmental conditions affecting the performance of systems and parts of systems.
BS EN 60654-1 assists you in the choice of severity levels for use in the development of evaluation specifications of industrial-process measurement and control equipment.
Overall, the guidelines of BS EN 60654-1 help you to produce industrial process measurement and control equipment with enhanced durability against climatic conditions.
