BS EN IEC 60335-2-71:2020

What is BS EN IEC 60335-2-71 about?  

BS EN IEC 60335 discusses the safety of household and similar electrical appliances. BS EN IEC 60335-2-71 is the second part of multi-series BS EN IEC 60335.  BS EN IEC 60335-2-71 deals with the safety of electrical heating appliances used for livestock rearing and breeding. This equipment includes heat-radiating appliances, electrical sitting-hens, incubators, chicken breeding units and heating plates for animals. The rated voltage of the appliances should not be more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances. 

BS EN IEC 60335-2-71 applies to heating appliances used for livestock rearing and breeding that include an electrical motor. 

Note: BS EN IEC 60335-2-71 does not apply to: 

• Appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes 
• Appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas) 
• Heating units embedded in the floor 
• Flexible sheet heating elements for room heating 
• Room heaters

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN IEC 60335271:2020 supersedes BS EN 60335271:2003, which is withdrawn. BS EN IEC 60335271:2020 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 60335271:2003. These include:

• Some notes converted to normative text
