BS EN 60335 is a European standard on the safety of households and similar electrical appliances. BS EN 60335-2-103 provides the particular requirements for drives for gates, doors, and windows to ensure protection against foreseeable hazards.
BS EN 60335-2-103 is the hundred and third sub-part of the second part of a multi-part series that deals with the safety of electric drives for horizontally and vertically moving gates, doors and windows for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances.
BS EN 60335-2-103 also covers the hazards associated with the movement of the gates, doors, garage doors and windows.
BS EN 60335-2-103 deals with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by drives that are encountered by all persons in and around the installation place.
Note1: BS EN 60335-2-103 does not take into account:
Note2: BS EN 60335-2-103 does not apply to drives
Note3: BS EN 60335-2-103 does not apply to the movement of a pedestrian door where such movement is based solely on stored mechanical energy.
Note4: BS EN 60335-2-103 does not deal with any specific requirements on noise emitted from these drives as the generated noise is not considered to be a relevant hazard. Thus, the emission sound pressure level LpA is LpA ≤70 dB(A).
BS EN 60335-2-103 on the requirements for drives for gates, doors and windows is useful for:
A set of requirements is used as inputs into the design stages of product development. Requirements are also an important input into the verification. They establish a foundation for product vision, scope, cost, and schedule and they target finished product quality and performance.
BS EN 60335-2-103 provides you with general requirements, general conditions for the tests, classification, marking and instructions, overload protection of transformers and associated circuits, stability, mechanical hazards, and much more.
The requirements provided by BS EN 60335-2-103 assist in improving the performance and quality of the drives for gates, doors and windows and ensure protection against the risk of mechanical hazards.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 60335-2-103, you can enhance the efficacy of the drives for gates, doors and windows and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
BS EN 60335-2-103:2015 supersedes EN 60335-2-103:2003+A11:2009, which is withdrawn. BS EN 60335-2-103:2015 has made some changes compared to the previous edition EN 60335-2-103:2003+A11:2009. These include:
