What is this standard about?
BS EN 60335-1 provides best practice recommendations for safety testing household and similar electrical appliances. This amendment aligns the standard with the legislative framework of the new Low Voltage Directive.
Who is this standard for?
Why should you use this standard?
Use of this standard will help make domestic electrical appliances safer. In addition, compliance with it, when used together with the relevant Part 2, means presumption of conformity to the latest Low Voltage Directive and Machinery Directive.
The standard:
NOTE 1: The use of appliances by unsupervised young children, or children playing with electrical household equipment, is not covered in this standard.
What’s changed since the last update?
Annex ZZ has been added so that the standard can be listed in the Official Journal of the European Union under the New Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU which came into force in April 2016, and the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. This aligns the standard with the new legislative framework of the Low Voltage Directive.
NOTE 2: This standard will supersede BS EN 60335-1:2012+A11:2014 but the latter standard will not be withdrawn for three years during which time both standards will be current.
