BS EN IEC 62984‑3 is the third part of the BS EN IEC 62984 multi-series that focuses on high-temperature batteries. This series of international standards aim to provide the users quality high-temperature secondary batteries.
BS EN IEC 62984‑3 specifies performance requirements and test procedures for high-temperature batteries based on sodium for mobile and/or stationary use and whose rated voltage does not exceed 1 500 V.BS EN IEC 62984‑3 defines sodium-based batteries which include sodium-sulphur batteries and sodium-nickel chloride batteries - both are high-temperature batteries and use a solid, sodium conducting electrolyte. Additional information on sodium-based batteries technology, their chemistries and construction are given in Annex B.
High temperature batteries in BS EN IEC 62984‑3 are electrochemical systems whose cells internal minimum operating temperature is above 100 °C.

In high-temperature secondary batteries, cells are kept at high temperature and enclosed within a thermally insulated enclosure. High-temperature sodium batteries are commercially applied for large-scale energy storage and conversion systems such as solar hybrid systems and energy storage systems.

BS EN IEC 62984‑3 also provides you performance tests which include batter auxiliary energy consumption test, energy efficiency test, long term endurance test, maximum continuous and transient discharge rate test and boost charge rate test which ensures the efficiency of batteries.
