This British Standard is the official English language version of EN ISO 4762:2004. It is identical with ISO 4762:2004. It supersedes BS EN ISO 4762:1998 which is withdrawn.

The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee FME/9, Nuts, bolts and accessories, to Subcommittee FME/9/8, Hexagon socket screws, which has the responsibility to:

aid enquirers to understand the text;
present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed;
monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK.

Foreword

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.

International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.

The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.

ISO 4762 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 2, Fasteners.

This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 4762:1997), which has been technically revised.

This European Standard was approved by CEN on 16 January 2004.

CEN members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which stipulate the conditions for giving this European Standard the status of a national standard without any alteration. Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on application to the Management Centre or to any CEN member.

This document (EN ISO 4762:2004) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 2 "Fasteners" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 185 "Threaded and non-threaded mechanical fasteners and accessories", the secretariat of which is held by DIN.

This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2004, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the latest by September 2004.

This document supersedes EN ISO 4762:1997.

The text of ISO 4762:2004 has been approved by CEN as EN ISO 4762:2004 without any modifications.

1 Scope

This International Standard specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket head cap screws with coarse pitch thread from M1,6 up to and including M64 and product grade A.

For approximate masses of screws see Annex A.

If, in special cases, specifications other than those listed in this International Standard are required, they should be selected from existing International Standards, e.g ISO 261, ISO 888, ISO 898‑1, ISO 965‑2. ISO 3506‑1, ISO 8839 and ISO 4759‑1.
