BS EN 1384 discusses helmets for equestrian activities. BS EN 1384 specifies the requirement for protective helmets that have a peak, for people involved in equestrian activities. 

BS EN 1384 gives safety requirements that include methods of tests and levels. Requirements and the corresponding methods of test are given for the following:

Why should you use BS EN 1384 - Helmets for equestrian activities?  

Helmets for equestrian activities can be worn for short and long periods of time (for many hours) in cold and hot climates including activities that result in the user's body temperature increasing. BS EN 1384 specifies the requirements for protective headwear for use in equestrian activities. 

The intention of a helmet is to reduce the risk of injury to the skull and part of the head surrounded by the helmet. Wearers need to be made aware that the protection given by a helmet depends on the circumstances of the accident and wearing a helmet cannot always prevent death or long-term disability. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 1384:2017 supersedes EN 1384:2012, which is withdrawn. BS EN 1384:2017 includes some technical changes with respect to EN 1384:2012.  These include: 

• The normative references in Clause 2 and in the text have been updated. EN 960 has been dated throughout the text 
• Clause 6 The helmet shall be marked with its weight The intended use of the helmet has been added
