BS EN 15332 discusses heating boilers. Boilers are special-purpose water heaters. While furnaces carry heat in warm air, boiler systems distribute the heat in hot water, which gives up heat as it passes through radiators or other devices in rooms throughout the house.
The cooler water then returns to the boiler to be reheated. Hot water systems are often called hydronic systems. Residential boilers generally use natural gas or heating oil for fuel. BS EN 15332 specifies a method for the energy assessment of domestic/sanitary hot water storage tanks of up to 2000L.
Note 1: BS EN 15332 does not cover water heaters intended primarily for direct heating, it does allow the provision of electric heating elements for auxiliary use.
Note 2: Primary heating buffer tanks are not covered by BS EN 15332. Heat losses of domestic hot water storage tanks integrated into combi boilers marketed as a single unit are not covered by BS EN 15332.
