BS EN 60745-2-3 is a part of the BS EN 60745 series that discusses the safety of hand-held motor-operated tools. BS EN 60745-2-3 applies to grinders, polishers, and disk-type sanders, including angle, straight and vertical tools, with a rated capacity not exceeding 230 mm.
For grinders, the rated speed does not exceed a peripheral speed of the accessory of 80 m/s at rated capacity. BS EN 60745-2-3 has to be used in conjunction with BS EN 60745-1 which covers general safety requirements that are applicable to most hand-held motor-operated electric tools.
Note 1: BS EN 60745-2-3 does not apply to dedicated cut-off machines.
Note 2: BS EN 60745-2-3 does not apply to random-orbit polishers and random-orbit sanders.
Note 3: BS EN 60745-2-3 does not apply to die-grinders utilizing collets or chucks for mounting threaded cones and mandrel mounted wheels.
BS EN 60745-2-3 on safety and requirements for grinders, polishers, and disk-type sanders is relevant to:
Grinders, polishers, and disk-type sanders are widely used in the construction and woodworking sectors. These machines although reliable do account for some of the common injuries in the sector. Although BS EN 60745-1 provides general safety requirements for hand-held motor-operated, it does not provide requirements specific to certain machines.
BS EN 60745-2-3 is specifically designed to illustrate the mechanical, design and operational requirements of grinder, polishers, and disk-type sanders. These guidelines of BS EN 60745-2-3 enable you to produce grinders, polishers and disk-type sanders that meet the minimum safety requirements and minimize the risk of injuries to their operators.
