BS EN 124-6 is a standard that serves technical specifications for gully tops and manhole tops, ensuring structural integrity and safety in vehicular and pedestrian applications.
BS EN 124-6 applies to manhole tops and gully tops made of Polypropylene (PP), Polyethylene (PE) or unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-U) by a moulding or extrusion process, with a clear opening up to and including 1000 mm for covering gullies, manholes and inspection chambers for installation within areas subjected to pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
BS EN 124-6 applies to manhole tops and gully tops for use in:
BS EN 124-6 gives guidance for combinations of covers/grating made of PP, PE or PVC–U with frames according to EN 124-2, EN 124-3, EN 124-4 and EN 124-5.
Note 1: BS EN 124-6 is not applicable in isolation but only in combination with EN 124-1
Note 2: BS EN 124-6 does not apply to -
BS EN 124-6 on gully tops and manhole tops applies to:
A manhole is a structure with a removable cover constructed on a drain or sewer to permit entry by personnel. A manhole top is the top upper part of a manhole or inspection chamber consisting of a frame, cover, and grating. Gully is an assembly to receive water for discharge into a drainage system. A gully top is the upper part of a gully consisting of a frame and grating with or without cover.
BS EN 124-6 provides users guidance on materials, design and performance, testing, assessment and verification of constancy of performance, designation and marking, enabling the standardization and development of gully and manhole tops.
BS EN 124-6 provides users guidance on design and performance requirements, reaction to fire, the effect of heating, deflection under load, impact resistance, durability, and dangerous substances, ensuring safety and protection in vehicular and pedestrian areas.
With obedience and compliance of BS EN 124-6, users can develop and assess gully tops and manhole tops, ensuring the safety, usability and longevity in vehicular and pedestrian areas.
BS EN 124-6:2015 along with EN 124-1:2015, EN 124-2:2015, EN 124-3:2015, EN 124-4:2015, EN 124-5:2015 standards supersede BS EN 124:1994, which is now withdrawn.
