BS EN 1253 discusses gullies for buildings. BS EN 1253-4 is the fourth part of the multi-series and discusses access cover.

Note: BS EN 1253-4 does not apply to access covers intended for external use which are covered by EN 124 series.

A gulley is a fitting with a chamber that is designed to collect rainwater, wastewater, and groundwater, conveying it to an underground surface-water sewer. Gullies can be used to drain wastewater and rainfall from buildings.

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN 1253-4:2016 supersedes BS EN 1253-4:2000, which is withdrawn. BS EN 1253-4:2016 includes some technical changes with respect to BS EN 1253-4:2000. These include: 

• Introduction of the new standards on trapped floor gullies with a depth of water seal of at least 50 mm (EN 1253-1), roof drains and floor gullies without trap (EN 1253-2) and on evaluation of conformity (EN 1253-3) 
• Amendment of items of marking as well as methods of marking
