Guidance for the provision of Alarm Transmission Systems (ATS) for Alarm Systems in the UK

Current

Published:

What is this Published Document about?

Alarm Transmission Systems (ATS) provide a means of sending alarm messages (such as fire, intrusion, access control or social alarm) from protected premises to an Alarm Receiving Centre.

As such, ATS’s are as important as the alarm systems they support, so it was felt that the existing suite of European ATS standards could be improved.

This led to PD 6669 being developed in the UK to supplement the BS EN 50136 series with more UK-specific guidance, advice and clarification.

Who is this Published Document for?

  • ATS service providers
  • Installers
  • Alarm Receiving Centres
  • Insurers
  • Inspectorates
  • Test houses
  • Police and fire organizations
  • I&HAS purchasers, specifiers, manufacturers, consultants, designers, installers and maintainers

Why should you use this Published Document?

Because the guidance and recommendations it supplies will help users of the existing BS EN 50136 series. Specifically it provides:

- additional guidance, such as additional ATS performance categories and actions to be taken when availability fails to meet the required levels

- fitting and installation advice to improve the security and reliability of ATS

- recommendations to enable enhanced reporting of dual path failures

- guidance enabling ATSs to be used with Intrusion & Hold-up Alarm Systems installed, commissioned, monitored, recorded and maintained in accordance with published British and European standards, Technical Specifications and Drafts for Development

- a breakdown of perspectives by job role, such as service provider, installer, auditor/inspector, insurer, etc., that indicates the relevant clauses to be followed

- references out to specific clauses within the EN 50136 series and other relevant national and European standards

NOTE: PD 6669 was conceived as a ‘scheme document’ and is expected to be run in combination with current and future versions of PD 6662, Scheme for the application of European standards for intrusion and hold-up alarms.
