BS EN ISO 12822:2020

What is ISO 12822 about?  

ISO 12822 discusses glass packaging. ISO 12822 specifies the dimensions of the 26 mm-shallow crown finish for glass bottles containing beverages. The shallow crown finish is designed to use a metal crown cap.

Why should you use ISO 12822? 

Efficient packaging is of great importance for the distribution and the protection of goods. Insufficient or inappropriate packaging can lead to damage or wastage of the contents of the pack. 

ISO 12822 specifies the dimensional requirements for bottlers and recommendations for cap application. ISO 12822 is used for improving compatibility and interchangeability between manufacturers. 

ISO 12822 provides dimensions on the sealing surface. The contact between the crown cap liner compound and the internal mould parting line of the glass finish should be avoided. The sealing surface should be smooth and free of any defects. Guidelines such as these provided in ISO 12822 ensure that the beverages reach customers in top condition. 

What’s changed since the last update?  

BS EN ISO 12822:2020 supersedes EN 14635:2010. 

The main changes compared to the previous version are as follows: 

• Changes in Figures 2, 3, 4 and 5 
• Deletion of reference to the cetie datasheet EC 1‑02 
• “Crown closure” and “crown cork” replaced by “crown cap” 
• Editorial corrections
