ISO 19170‑1 is an international standard that deals with geographic information to help researchers more about the Earth reference system. 

ISO 19170‑1 gives technical specifications such as terms, conventions, DGGS specification overview, common Spatio-temporal classes package, DGGS core package, equal-area Earth DGGS for explaining the Discrete Global Grid Systems Specifications.

ISO 19170‑1 gives you the Spatio-temporal scope that is constrained to spatial classes that are invariant through all time, and to temporal classes that are invariant throughout space, which is flexible enough for a very large body of social and environmental modelling. 

ISO 19170‑1 specifies data models for a consistent set of common Spatio-temporal classes, a DGGS core built on the common Spatio-temporal classes, and a DGGS EAERS (Equal-Area Earth RS). The Common Spatio-temporal Classes, DGGS Core, and Equal-Area Earth DGGS packages each have their own conformance classes with their associated specifications and requirements.
