General requirements for third-party product certification systems.
This European Standard specifies general requirements that a third-party operating a product certification system needs to comply with if it is to be recognized as competent and reliable.
Specific requirements are given on the organization, operations, subcontracting, the quality system, conditions and procedures for granting, maintaining, extending, suspending and withdrawing certification, internal audits and management reviews, documentation, records, and confidentiality.
While this standard is concerned with third-parties providing product certification, many of its provisions may also be useful in first- and second-party product conformity assessment procedures.
This European Standard is a revision of BS 7511:1989, which is withdrawn.
