EN 16905 series is a European Standard that specifies the requirements, test methods, and test conditions for the rating and performance calculation of air conditioners and heat pumps using either air, water, or brine as heat transfer media, with gas-fired endothermic engine-driven compressors when used for space heating, cooling and refrigeration, hereafter referred to as “GEHP appliance”.
BS EN 16905 only applies to appliances with a maximum heat input (based on net calorific value) not exceeding 70 kW at standard rating conditions.
BS EN 16905 only applies to appliances having:
BS EN 16905 applies to appliances only when used for space heating or space cooling or for refrigeration, with or without heat recovery.
BS EN 16905-3 is the third part of the multi-series document that specifies the test conditions for the rating of energy parameters of gas-fired endothermic engine-driven heat pumps for heating and/or cooling mode including the engine heat recovery.
Note: The appliances having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water are not covered by BS EN 16905-4.
BS EN 16905-3 on gas-fired endothermic engine-driven heat pumps is applicable to:
Gas-fired endothermic heat pumps are essentially air-source heat pumps that are powered by a heat source such as natural gas, propane, solar-heated water, or geothermal-heated water rather than electricity.
BS EN 16905-3 provides you with environmental conditions and electrical power supply requirements for units designed for installation indoors and outdoors. Rating conditions in cooling and in heating are also covered. Moreover, recommendations on ideal inlet dry and wet bulb temperatures as per rating conditions for heating and cooling modes is provided in BS EN 16905-3.
If you are a manufacturer or designer of gas-fired endothermic heat pumps, you can demonstrate reliability and credibility for your products with best industry guidance on gas-fired endothermic engine-driven heat pumps, by conforming to test conditions recommended by BS EN 16905-3.
