Bunk beds and high beds are common at every hostel, dormitories, home and camp, as this helps in reducing the unnecessary wastage of spaces. BS EN 747-2 specifies test methods for the safety, strength and durability of bunk beds and high beds for domestic and non-domestic use. The loads and forces in the strength and durability tests apply to beds with an internal length greater than 140 cm and a maximum bed base width of 120 cm.
BS EN 747-2 provides guidelines for the tests designed to be applied to a bed that is fully assembled and ready for use.
Note: BS EN 747-2 does not apply to bunk beds and high beds used for special purposes, including but not limited to prison, the military and fire brigades.

Bunk beds or high beds are used by people of various age limits, thus, for these products safety is a prime concern. BS EN 747-2 describes a number of tests consisting of the application, to various parts of bunk beds and high beds, of loads or forces applied by one adult occupant per bed during normal functional use. BS EN 747-2 also deals with misuses that can be reasonably expected to occur.
The tests in BS EN 747-2 are designed to evaluate properties without regard for materials, design/construction or manufacturing processes. BS EN 747-2 also provide guidelines for preliminary preparation, application of forces, and tolerances
