BS 1982-2 discusses the fungal resistance of panel products. The aim of BS 1982 is to provide the best industrial practice to determine the resistance property by inheritance or resistance property obtained by the chemical preservative against fungi.
BS 1982-2 is the second part of the BS 1982 series of standards that describes a method for subjecting panel products to attack by cellulose-decomposing microfungi and assessing the significance of the results obtained. The method is applicable to rigid sheet materials which do not disintegrate upon exposure to moisture alone. It is applicable to the determination of the inherent resistance of such panel products to attack by cellulose-decomposing microfungi or the resistance to such attack conferred by the use of preserving chemicals during manufacture or subsequently. The method of test is designed solely to meet the above objectives and is not intended to simulate any form of conditions in service. The test results in themselves cannot be used directly to predict service life in practice.
BS 1982-2 on wood preservatives is useful for:
Fungi attack woods through the action of solvents called "enzymes," some of which dissolve cellulose, while others dissolve lignin, starches, sugars, and other compounds. The removal of any one of these constituents from the wood results ultimately, in the total destruction of the usefulness of the wood.
BS 1982-2 walks you through the preparation of test materials, test procedure, the validity of the test, assessment of test results, and test report.
The test method in BS 1982-2 helps to assess the efficacy of the inherent property or preservatives of panel products against microfungi. This will ensure that your product has the capability of protecting against the microfungi.
