ISO 25239-2 is the second part of a multi-series international standard that covers the friction stir welding of aluminium.
ISO 25239-2 specifies design requirements for friction stir weld joints. The term “aluminium” refers to aluminium and its alloys, here. It specifies terms, definitions, design requirements such as documentation, joint design as well as additional information for the design of weld joints.
Note 1: ISO 25239-2 focuses on the Friction stir welding (FSW) of aluminium because, at the time of publication of this standard, the majority of commercial applications for Friction stir welding (FSW) involved aluminium metal.
Note 2: ISO 25239-2 does not apply to friction stir spot welding which is covered by the ISO 18785 series.

BS EN ISO 25239-2:2020 supersedes BS EN ISO 25239-2:2011, which is withdrawn. In BS EN ISO 25239-2:2020 half overlap joint has been taken into consideration and Figure 2 has been improved with respect to BS EN ISO 25239-2:2011.
