What is ISO 7293 about? 

ISO 7293 specifies a method for testing the performance and fuel consumption of internal combustion engines used to power portable chain-saws. 

Who is ISO 7293 for? 

ISO 7293 on engine performance and fuel consumption of internal combustion engine powering portable chainsaw is useful for: 

• Manufacturing chain-saw and machines 
• Health and safety bodies (regulators, accident prevention organisations, market surveillance, etc.). 
• Suppliers and distributors for chainsaws and forestry machine 
• Companies dealing with machines for moving logs and tress 
• Service providers for forestry machineries 

Why should you use ISO 7293? 

Fuel consumption is the rate at which an engine uses fuel, expressed in units such as miles per gallon or liters per kilometer. Whereas engine performance is often characterized by the engine operating behavior in the speed–load domain, for example, the behavior of emissions, fuel consumption, noise, mechanical and thermal loading. It is important to analyze both these parameters for internal combustion engine powering forestry machinery to work efficiently in the field. ISO 7293 provides you with a test method for this purpose. 

ISO 7293 covers the requirements for the machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations or hazardous events will proceed. Thus, it helps you ensure safety and protection against probable hazardous situations that can occur while using a portable chainsaw powered by an internal combustion engine.  

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS ISO 7293:2021 supersedes BS 6916‑7:1998, which is withdrawn. 

BS ISO 7293:2021 includes: 

• The normative references have been updated 
• The mandatory terms and definitions clause has been inserted and subsequent clauses have been renumbered 
• The "Apparatus" clause has been replaced with "Accuracy of measurements and the conditions of measurement have been revised 
• The "Test conditions" clause has been replaced with "Power correction factors and the operating method has been revised 
• A new Table 1, Sample test data record sheet, has been added.
