BS ISO 7915:2021

What is ISO 7915 about? 

ISO 7915 specifies a test method and strength requirements for the handles of portable handheld chain-saws for use primarily in forestry and tree-service.

• Manufacturers of portable chain-saw and machine 
• Suppliers and distributors for portable chain-saws and forestry machine 
• Service providers for forestry machines 
• Companies dealing with machines for moving logs and tress 

Why should you use ISO 7915? 

Portable chainsaw is a machine which runs on gasoline, electric or battery-powered to the saw that have a set of teeth attached to a rotating chain which is mostly used for cutting big logs and trees which a small piece, bucking, pruning and harvesting of firewood.  

The use of portable chain saw poses high degree of risk with threats like kickback. You can ensure that the chain-saw handles should not break or crack when tested in accordance with ISO 7915 test methods.

What’s changed since the last update? 

BS ISO 7915:2021 supersedes ISO 7915:1991, which is withdrawn. 

BS ISO 7915:2021 includes: 

• The scope has been updated to be inclusive of chain-saws regardless of power source and inclusive of chain-saws for tree service 
• Means of mounting the chain-saw, for a more secure and repeatable test, has been defined 
• Directional application of test loads clarified and tolerances applied to all measurable 
• Minimum test loads for chain-saws for tree service added to table 1 
• New figures have been included to show directions of load applications for chain-saws for forest service and chain-saws for tree service
