BS EN 14958 is a European standard on food processing machinery that discusses the safety and hygiene requirements for grinding and processing machinery of flour and semolina to ensure the safety of workers from workplace hazards.
BS EN 14958 deals with the significant hazards, hazardous situations, and events relevant to the machinery for grinding and processing flour and semolina, such as roller mills, plan sifters and rotary separators, air classifiers, rotating machines, and impact machines.
The machines in the scope are stationery (not intended to be moved when in operation), have a capacity of at least 100 kg/h, and are intended for use in installations for grain processing, such as flour mills, and semolina mills, grain cleaning and flaking plants.
BS EN 14958 deals with the significant hazards during commissioning, operation, cleaning and maintenance of the machines in the scope when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are foreseeable by the manufacturer.
Note1: BS EN 14958 is not applicable to:
Note2: BS EN 14958 is not dealing with the following:
Note3: If the machine is intended for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere, additional safety measures can be necessary.
BS EN 14958 on the safety and hygiene requirements for flour and semolina processing machinery is useful for:
Safety is a state in which hazards and conditions leading to physical, psychological, or material harm are controlled to preserve the health and well-being of individuals and the community. It is an essential resource for everyday life, needed by individuals and communities to realize their aspirations.
BS EN 14958 provides you with guidance on safety requirements and/or protective measures, a list of significant hazards, protective measures against electrical hazards, protection against dust emission, noise reduction, verification of the safety requirements and/or measures, safety signals and warning devices, marking, etc.
The safety and hygiene requirements provided by BS EN 14958 assist you in improving the performance and quality of flour and semolina grinding and processing machinery and ensuring a reduction in the risk to workers against mechanical hazards, electrical hazards and electrostatic phenomena, noise hazards, hazards due to neglecting hygienic principles, fire, and explosion hazards.
With obedience and compliance to BS EN 14958, you can enhance flour and semolina grinding and processing machinery’ effectiveness and efficacy, improve the quality of life, and manufacture a standardized high-quality product.
